My name is Rodica Maria Iordache, and I live in the city of Buzău. In 2019, following some tests, I was advised by the doctor and my family to have a Pap test. The result suggested a biopsy. With the help of my daughter, who is a doctor, I went to Bucharest to see Dr. Nicolae Bacalbașa at Cantacuzino Hospital. Dr. Bacalbașa performed the biopsy, and the result was stage IIB uterine cancer. I opted for a total hysterectomy after undergoing radiation therapy.
Dr. Bacalbașa recommended that I get in touch with a radiation oncologist for the treatment before the surgery. At the radiation oncologist's suggestion, I underwent 25 sessions of radiation therapy, 4 sessions of chemotherapy, and 2 sessions of brachytherapy. Three weeks after completing the treatment, I had an MRI, and the result was very good - there was no tumor. Dr. Bacalbașa scheduled my surgery for January 23, 2020. The surgical intervention went very well, and I felt great after the procedure. I was discharged after 4 days, and there were no complications whatsoever.
It has been 3 and a half years since the surgery. I followed Dr. Bacalbașa's instructions diligently, and after the stitches were removed, I quickly got in touch with the oncologist. I had regular check-ups as advised by the oncologist. Last year, during my check-up with Dr. Bacalbașa, he suggested a biopsy for safety, which I did, and the result was good. Last month, the latest CT scan (head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis) showed very good results, and now I have check-ups once a year.
When you receive such a diagnosis, life changes. I was still active in September 2019 when I found out about the diagnosis, but I went on medical leave for a year and a half. After that, I opted for early retirement as I was only one year away from reaching the retirement age limit. I considered stress to be a risk factor, so I decided to stop working.
Regarding Dr. Bacalbașa, I can say that he is a true professional, a calm, empathetic person who promptly resolves the surgery as urgently as possible so as not to waste precious time in such cases. My recommendation for other patients is to have full confidence in everything Dr. Bacalbașa decides, and the result will be very good.
I never doubted for a moment that it wouldn't be okay; Dr. Bacalbașa gave me the courage I needed, telling me that everything would be fine, and it was. I can only thank him and wish him good health and continued success in the noble work he practices with great dedication for patients.
